Choosing Love: The Hard Choice of Adoption
The first time I met this young girl, who I will call Traci*, was when she decided to schedule an appointment for a pregnancy test and an ultrasound. Her test was positive. During her initial visit and intake, Traci told me she was considering an adoption plan for her baby. So we discussed the options available for adoption.
Several months passed until I received a phone call from Traci to schedule another appointment. Reality had started to sink in and she was again considering her next steps. She had so many questions that needed answers and was feeling alone with no one she trusted to confide in. Traci realized that there were now two lives and two stories involved in the decisions she was about to make.
I was blessed to be able to witness such a powerful love between Traci and the precious life she was carrying. In that love, she recognized that in her current situation, she was unable to provide all that this baby would need. Traci felt much more in control of her choices now for all the right reasons. As I listened to her, I could understand it was because of her deep love and selfless concern for her precious baby’s future that she chose adoption.
Traci went home that evening, went online, and read the different profiles of adoptive parents—choosing, without a doubt, the couple she wanted to raise her baby. She wanted to remain involved in her baby’s life so she decided on an open adoption.
I was blessed to share in Traci’s joy and excitement about her adoption journey. Adoption is a tough choice for any young woman to make. Please pray for Traci, her baby, and the family that is welcoming them. The journey is just beginning as this baby is born and grows.
