Adding to Our Numbers
Because we have experienced such growth over the last several years, our Board of Directors recognized it was time to add a Development Director to our staff. Crossroads offers many life-affirming client initiatives and yet many people are unaware of exactly what we do and how they can become involved in the mission to provide life-affirming, Christ-centered counseling, and educational services to women, men and families. Sometimes the purpose of our mission is misunderstood.
For example, when someone Googles “abortion services in Lewistown PA”, we hope they will see our client website (www.crossroadspcs.org) come up ahead of the nearest abortion clinic. Why? Because many women are searching for where they can get an abortion because they feel like they have no choice. We want her to know there is a real choice and that we are motivated to support them - not for profit, but by love. We know that children are an irreplaceable and inestimable gift from God! Every client service we provide is free because of the support we receive from like-minded donors in the communities we serve.
The Development Director’s job is to raise awareness and interest within the community so that others will prayerfully partner with us to help Crossroads be the first, trusted option for anyone with pregnancy-related issues. We are very happy to introduce you to Brenda Covert, the newest addition to our team.
Get to know Brenda:
I am first and foremost a child of God, a daughter of the most-high, forgiven and saved at the age of 15 years old. I love the Lord above all else. I am married to Ken Covert, my God-given, absolute best gift ever, and my very best friend. We have been married for 43 years. We attend Heritage Baptist Church in McConnellstown. We have one daughter, whom we are very proud of, Tara and her husband Rob. We also have two wonderful grandchildren. Logan and his fiancé Mylie, as well as our amazing granddaughter Peytan, who is a senior in high school. We have also been blessed with two beautiful great-granddaughters, Bailey and Laurel.
I have a heart and a passion for Crossroads. My connection with Crossroads started 25 years ago. Actually, my family is a Crossroads’ success story from when our daughter found herself with an unexpected pregnancy at 14 years of age. It’s quite the story, but a positive journey, that has taken my family from the shock of learning of the pregnancy; to the education of all the choices she had to make; to sometimes difficult things she had to endure being a young mother; to today where we have a
24-year-old grandson with his own successful business.”
I served on the Board of Directors of Crossroads from December 2017 through June of 2019. Feeling the nudging of God to go deeper into the day-to-day opportunities of the ministry of Crossroads, I became Development Director in July 2019.
In this role, I hope to educate and spread the word of ALL that Crossroads has to offer to those who are dealing with an unexpected pregnancy decision. For first time moms and dads, our parenting classes are so helpful and the “earn-while-you-learn” program also offers the necessary items for their baby as they learn. And let’s not forget about the healing classes we offer: grief counseling for those who may have lost a child, Post-abortion healing, or healing from abusive relationships or pasts. There are also sexual integrity sessions offered at our offices for clients and also in schools that may participate in our Reaching Destinations program. And then we offer medical services like pregnancy tests, limited ultrasound, and STD testing and treatment—currently only available in two locations. AND SO MUCH MORE!
All free and confidential...all funded solely by donations. We receive no government funding, so I hope to create and orchestrate new ways of raising funds and volunteers for this worthy cause. I look forward to reaching out to community churches, businesses, groups, and individuals who may have a heart in what we offer and want to find out “How can we help?” So ask yourself how much of this did you know we offered? Many, I have found, do not know much of this. THAT is why I am so looking forward to my calling here at Crossroads. I am truly thankful, grateful, and blessed to be serving at Crossroads and am so excited to see where God leads us from here.
For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10
