"Wait! Can you feel it?"

Recently, I decided to take one of our long-time Client Services Managers, Bonnie, to breakfast. We were reminiscing about years gone by at Crossroads and some of the clients we had met. I asked her if she remembered a client we had helped in her office. I’ll call her “Jolene”.
Jolene was pregnant and wasn’t prepared to be. After seeing her baby on ultrasound and hearing our offers of support, she decided to keep her baby. But then, she didn’t show for her Bridges Program appointment. So, Bonnie and I did what we often do - we prayed fervently. Then a friend of Jolene’s informed us she aborted her little one. Having been the person who met with Jolene, I was heartbroken. I saw in my mind the image of her baby that I had seen on the ultrasound screen. I was concerned about how this would affect Jolene in the long run. I tried reaching out, but the connection went silent…for years.
I said to Bonnie, “I remember she came back to your office years later with a subsequent pregnancy, didn’t she?” To which Bonnie said, “yes” and explained to me what had happened on that day. When Jolene came, pregnant again, she sat down with Bonnie to do her intake form. All of a sudden, Jolene exclaimed, “Wait!! Do you feel it!?” Bonnie was startled and confused. “What?” Jolene said “I can feel the Holy Spirit in this room!”
How amazing that the Spirit was palpable to this young woman. She knew Crossroads was a place where she could find love and compassion. And we know that without His guidance we can do nothing and His presence means everything.
Jolene also told Bonnie about how much she regretted her past abortion and she was definitely keeping the baby she was carrying this time.
Over these 40 years that Crossroads has been in existence, there are thousands of stories of the amazing ways God has made Himself known. He will continue His faithfulness as He has promised for generations to come. Ephesians 3:20-21 says, “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.”
