Planting Seeds
One of my favorite experiences, since I began speaking in the schools, was from a local junior high school. I had a rather combative and “loud” 8th-grade girl all week, clearly trying to test my patience. I was determined to win her, not ostracize her. It was clear that the message of sexual-risk avoidance, personal integrity and value, and the concept of building strong and safe relationships was new to her. Despite her tough exterior, I kept choosing her to help, calling on her for answers, and throwing candy and prizes in her direction. At the end of the week, she came to me quickly after the last day to tell me that “Nobody ever told me I was valuable and deserved a good relationship before.” I drove home praying for that dear student because if my whole week was just so she would know she has value and worth, it was worth it.
There are countless other stories and many seeds are being sown through Reaching Destinations–the preventative arm of Crossroads Pregnancy Center.
As you may have heard, Crossroads is eagerly seeking applicants for contracted speakers to support our growing Reaching Destinations program! These speakers are contracted to go into area school districts and present our certified curriculum to students in a classroom setting. Is this position possibly for YOU?
This is an independently contracted position and Crossroads pays by the hour and reimburses for mileage to and from presentations.
Applicants should be passionate, committed people who love teenagers and believe in their potential.
All presentations are pre-planned so our speakers have plenty of time to plan ahead.
The speaking engagements are intermittent throughout the year, mostly during the school year, so the time commitment is very easy for most people to fit into their schedules.
A teaching degree is not required, but a passion for teenagers to hear the message of sexual risk avoidance and reap the benefits of that in their lives is! Candidates should also have the ability to speak effectively to teens.
