Our Why: Support Amidst the Pressure
Every day there are women who find themselves in an unplanned pregnancy. There are a myriad of reasons that these women feel pressure towards choosing abortion—internal, external, or both. The world tells her deliberately and subtly that it is an easy, simple fix. But she often feels a heavy weight when considering what to do.
In a study of 954 women from 30 different abortion facilities, these were the most frequent reasons for seeking abortions:
Financial reasons - she could not afford a baby right now - 40%
Timing - a baby would interfere with education or other life plans - 36%
Partner-related reasons - relationship issues, single parenting, etc - 31%
Dependents - need to focus on raising other children - 29%
Crossroads has been meeting these women for over 39 years to offer them help, hope, and healing in Jesus’ name. But amid the very real fears and pressure they are facing, Crossroads offers compassion and practical support that does not minimize the difficulty she is facing.
We do this through the various Client Services that we offer including our medical services to verify the pregnancy and options counseling to talk through all the options available along with risks. Our BRIDGES program, the earn-while-you-learn program, provides material support and excellent classes on how to take care of themselves during their pregnancy and how to care for their newborn. There are also many lessons that they can continue to watch throughout the different stages of their baby and toddler’s lifecar seat, and a crib. With repeated classes, the client advocate can build a relationship with their clients enabling them to share even more to meet their needs.

These moments—these women—are our “why.” They give us the strength to go forward and persevere because we know the work we do is right! We will continue to serve a loving God and help families within our communities thrive.
