Marsha*, a single mother, came to the office for a pregnancy test and an ultrasound. Once our Bridges Program was explained to her, she faithfully came into the office to earn items for her baby such as the crib and mattress, car seat and pack-n-play as well as other items.

During the pregnancy, her doctors discovered through ultrasounds that the baby would need to be born in a specialized hospital and would need to have major surgery. So there were several months where I didn’t get to see her because she stayed at the hospital to be with her child. Then because of Covid, she could no longer bring the baby or come into the office for the classes herself.

I called her one day after we reopened in March and explained to her about the Virtual Classes we were then offering. Marsha was so excited to once again be doing the BRIDGES Program and for the opportunity to stay at home, do online classes, and have some needs meet for her baby, who was now three months old.

One afternoon she stopped by to pick up the package of diapers left outside the door. I heard knocking on the window and with her cell phone in hand, she wanted to show me the latest pictures of her baby and how she was growing, slowly but growing.

It was a precious moment indeed. While nothing could replace the full energy of being together with our clients, I have to admit that was close. ·

[We are now able to meet our client again in person. Some choose to still do virtual appointments or choose do so after just having their babies]
