Overcoming the Odds

By Suzie, Client Services Director, Huntingdon

I first met Chey when she came in for an ultrasound. She was 18, a senior in high school, and was using birth control regularly. She had gone in to have a health procedure and found out she was pregnant. She wasn’t expecting this at all but wanted to parent this baby. Her boyfriend was very supportive and also wanted to parent but he worked long hours and was unable to attend the ultrasound.

Chey and I walked through her pregnancy in our BRIDGES program from the first trimester. When they found out it was a little girl, they were so excited. Chey’s boyfriend was laid off work for the season, so he was able to come and enroll in our men’s curriculum. He attended classes regularly and was excited to be a father. His own dad died when he was very young and he was determined to be there for his little girl as much as possible.

The couple was able to earn a crib and mattress, pack-n-play, infant car seat, and a nursing mom set through BRIDGES. They expressed how much Crossroads taught them about what to expect in pregnancy and how to parent. They were very thankful for all the baby equipment that they wouldn’t have been able to afford on their own.

Chey and D had their beautiful baby girl at the end of May. Just a few weeks later, Chey graduated high school! They are all doing great and are excited to share their bright future with their precious baby girl. Chey chose life! •
