One by One
On May 10th, at a rally outside of Planned Parenthood in Philadelphia, Matt Walsh stated, “Abortion is not a reproductive decision, abortion is a parenting decision.” By the time an abortion happens, reproduction has already been accomplished. The abortion decision is based on what are you going to do with this child that you produced. Will you choose to end its life or to give it life?
The pro-choice industry is based on the presumption that the unborn child holds no value as a person. It is not a separate entity, but only a growth in the mother that can be removed, such as a wart or a cancerous tumor. The Bible tells us differently. “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” Jeremiah 1:5
God knew you. He had a plan for you before you were even conceived. If the Creator of the universe says that an unborn child has value and worth and a future, who are we to argue. The question is, “How do we get a world who doesn’t believe in God to believe in the value of His creation?” At Crossroads, it’s with the same plan that God has used for thousands of years. We love each one that calls on us and save one baby at a time. We help people deal with the consequences of their actions. Whether the consequences are an “unplanned” pregnancy or an “unplanned” sexually transmitted infection, we treat everyone with truth, love, and understanding. The medical ministry of Crossroads includes STI testing, treatment, and education. It also includes pregnancy testing and ultrasound to show the family the truth of the life growing inside the mother. Early pregnancy can be an abstract thought, but an ultrasound reveals a clear picture of the heart We also help parents-to-be with our BRIDGES program.
In this program, expecting parents learn how to take care of themselves and their babies. They also earn points that can be exchanged for material items such as clothing, diapers, car seats, and cribs. Last, but certainly not least, with their permission, we start to introduce them to the Lord of Creation. One of my favorite stories is the Parable of the Starfish.
Parable of the Starfish: One day, an old man was walking along a beach that was littered with thousands of starfish that had been washed ashore by the high tide. As he walked, he came upon a young boy who was eagerly throwing the starfish back into the ocean, one by one. Puzzled, the man looked at the boy and asked what he was doing. Without looking up from his task, the boy simply replied, “I’m saving these starfish, Sir”. The old man chuckled aloud, “Son, there are thousands of starfish and only one of you. What difference can you make:” The boy picked up a starfish, gently tossed it into the water and turning to the man, said, “I made a difference to that one!” “I made a difference to that one!” With over 60 million children lost to abortion since Roe vs Wade, Crossroads will continue to make a difference, one by one! •
