From The Director: A Post-Roe World
Back in February, my husband and I chose a random date to reserve tickets to Sight & Sound in Lancaster to see David. We chose June 24th. That evening as we watched David go up against Goliath, the scene became more than just theatre. When Goliath fell, it was a spiritual demonstration of what had happened that morning at the Supreme Court with the overturning of Roe v Wade. I realized that choosing that date to go was providence. Praise God, we now live in a Post-Roe world!
Next scene: David’s army of men began dancing and singing “The battle is the Lord’s!” This is so true! But the battle isn’t over, it’s just begun. Now Christians must put their words into action and be there for women in need.
While the landscape in Pennsylvania hasn’t changed much, we could actually see an increase in abortions here due to some legislation targeted to provide government funds for abortion or because more women will cross state lines if other states limit access. In the future, we might see new legislation that restricts free access to abortion meaning desperate women will need help and support more than ever. One myth going around is that women will die because they can’t receive help for ectopic pregnancies or when in serious life-threatening situations. This is false.
“No abortion law in any state in America prevents lifesaving treatment for women with ectopic pregnancies and other life-threatening conditions. That was true of abortion laws in 1972, and it’s true of abortion laws in 2022. “All states had at least a life of the mother exception before Roe v. Wade,” Clarke Forsythe, senior counsel at Americans United for Life,” told John McCormack from the National Review.
Through our medical services, education, material assistance, and ongoing support offered at Crossroads, we are committed to continuing the excellent care for women in our communities.
God continues to give us amazing opportunities to share our beliefs, His truth, and the message of His saving grace! We are very busy and very excited about our new office in Altoona. When we began our Google Ads in January, we quickly realized that over 25% of the contacts we received were from abortion-vulnerable women in the Altoona area. Most seeking information on the abortion pill. For them, a confirmation of pregnancy is crucial before making that choice. Some were willing to drive all the way to our Huntingdon office for medical services. We referred some to Every Life Matters (ELM), the pregnancy center in Tyrone because they also have the ability to do medical confirmation of pregnancy.
Another center called Precious Life has been serving Altoona for over 35 years and they do a wonderful job in bringing life-affirming services to that community. They also have a wonderful ministry to Romania. We have had talks with them, prior to our decision, to make sure God wasn’t calling them to add medical services to their ministry. We wouldn’t want to come in doing the exact same thing. After being assured that they were not, we sensed God’s call to us again. For those the Lord has led to support Precious Life, we are happy you do and encourage you to continue giving to them! We are all in this battle together.
We then met with the leadership at ELM. Our two ministries had a meeting and we talked over all the aspects of adding this component to the Altoona area. We spent an evening praying and worshipping the Lord together. Psalm 133:1 says, “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!” Again, for any who supports ELM, we encourage you to continue supporting that wonderful ministry in Tyrone! As believers, we know that God has the ability to provide for all the plans He puts in place.
As Crossroads and other pro-life ministries spread the gospel throughout Blair, Huntingdon, Mifflin, and Juniata Counties, Acts 1:8 comes to mind, “…you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
To Him be the Glory,
